Finally I have finished my prep drawing for my icon.
All the gorgeous packets of pigments from Cornelissen in London have been decanted into little plastic jars, the eggs are in the fridge and we're all set. The drawing will be traced up, then the gold parts will be sealed with shellac. I'm using an acrylic gold size which is ready in 15 mins but stays 'open ' indefinitely, and a warm 22C gold leaf. Let's hope I get the hang of it ;-)
At the moment I'm also working on a drawing of the mill stones at Knossos, and I'm also experimenting with lots of different papers and sketching in pen and gouache, which is fun because it dries quickly and it's really immediate. Next to doing studio work like this it's refreshing to do something so free and sploshy. I'll post some sketches up shortly I think - lighten the mood a little!
